On June 1 Malama announced the launch of a new commercial product, Studio BioFoam™. This proprietary 2 pound and 4 pound sculpting foam was developed specifically for artists, stage set and exhibit builders, and the industrial design community. It is a non-toxic, zero emission material which has already met with universally positive response at the major motion picture studios and a number of the independent production companies. Studio BioFoam is also being used by the La Jolla Playhouse to build the automatons for their upcoming performance of “Yoshima Battles the Pink Robots,” a wild show.
Our new chemistry has enabled production on a continuous manufacturing line. As a result, Malama has increased its potential capacity from a total of about 4,000 board feet per day to over 170,000 feet. This represents the equivalent of over five truckloads of material per day! Our original Sorrento Valley facility simply did not have the space to handle these volumes. After an extensive search, on October 1 we moved into our new 17,500 SFT corporate headquarters in Otay Mesa: 7756 St. Andrews Avenue Suite 117, San Diego 92154.
This new facility provides us with the capabilities to dimension truckload quantities of raw “buns,” cut these into various panel thicknesses, and package and ship final products via RevChem and other distributors to locations across the country. The office telephone number has changed to 619.661.1111. Nicole Mair, our office manager, is there to take your calls. We look forward to meeting your needs for performance and cost competitive sculpting and shaping foams that are truly GREEN TO THE CORE.
